Hey you...

How far apart are your meals spaced? The problem about having a low BMI is that when we have no food in our systems (say two hours after we eat) we have no fat reserves, so our bodies break down protein for food. So, if we don't eat regularly, our bodies are always in a state of catabolism.

Try eating every two hours, even if it is something small. Nuts are great as mentioned...because you don't have to eat much and they are very dense in energy. By doing this, your body doesn't have to go into it's own energy stores when we are not eating.

Once you get to a BMI of lets say 20-22, you don't have to worry as much because you will have enough fat for your body to use during the meal breaks..

Anyways, give it a shot...good luck..

Thank you all so much for your input. I have had a lot of stress concerning the weight thing lately and I just am not conquering this challenge very well. I am going to try and eat every 2 hours....hopefully that will help as well.

I believe all things are possible, I just have to find the right mix so to speak for my little body. I think exercise is key and my weight is always better when I am really working out hard. The cf nutritionist freaked me out a couple of weeks ago...although I do really like her. Unfortunately, the things she offers like scanishakes and chocolate pudding between meals just don't fit into my healthful plan.

Ender, I do a lot of nuts....almonds, pumpkin, allergic to walnuts-dang it!, brazil nuts, macadamian nuts, .... I guess I just have to go with bigger portion size with each mini meal...

ok so here is what I have eaten today....I already know the calories are not enough.

2 scrambled eggs with cheese
1 tablespoon coconut oil
2 tables spoons salsa
in spelt tortilla
kefir smoothie with 1/2 mixed berries, 1 tblsp ground flax
handful of almonds

larabar
banananut after workout

Lunch
3 crabcakes
green salad with avacado and oilve oil
1 cup brown rice pasta
little talapia with tomatoes
1 cup green tea

snack
1 cup cottage cheese
1/4 cup mixed berries
1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
1/2 cliff bar
2 cups green tea

I am eating healthfully not calorie-fully<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
rrrrrrrrr.

anyway, thanks for the suggestions...Lindsey you look great in your pics....you are such a pretty girl...with a beautiful smile.
thanks again.

Mandy, of course genetics plays a part in your size, some people are just naturally thin and can eat like horses but always stay that way.
You have an extremely healthy diet and as long as you are not getting sicker than you usually do, or more often than you usually do there is no reason to be concerned.
The stress you are putting yourself under by worrying about your weight will be doing a lot more damage than actually being underweight.
Next time they suggest a G tube, tell them politely where to jam it!
I too am very thin, but have been within 5 pounds of my current weight since I was fifteen years old, so for me, my size is normal and i do not allow myself to worry about it. Like you, my vitamin and mineral levels are good and apart from the occasional cold, followed usually by a chest infection I maintain excellent health. I have never had a G tube suggested and if they ever did they'd better have some damned compelling reasons for it or they'd be sorry they ever mentioned it.
I seem to lose very little weight when I am sick (maximum of 5 pounds ever), so I don't subscribe to the theory that I should keep myself pleasantly plump 'just in case' the stress of trying to get plump would be devastating.
I eat whatever i like, whenever I like and i follow basic rules of good nutrition without being fanatical about it.
My main aim in life is to be happy and stress free, if i were you I'd forget what the doctors are saying and keep doing exactly what you are doing. Don't stress, be happy.

In a few weeks, if you can add just a bit more to your food intake, you will be able to tolerate more food. Perhaps getting up earlier than scheduled then if you need to, take a nap after you eat but do so sitting up in a lounge chair.

I use to tell my husband when he walks by me to whisper the word, hungry. Believe it or not, it got my appetite going.

If you feel like you want to gain and you know you can do it, then you will do it. I strongly believe that you can do this but do not expect miracles over night.

I would eat two cliff bars daily. I love the black cherry almond and the banana nut.

Hummus is good for you. Beans and beans in soup with veggies. Good for snacks.

I too, stayed healthier many years longer than scheduled because of my good diet.

Tell the nutritionist she should be proud of you. Tell her that you want to keep your other organs healthy and by sticking to the traditional CF diet, that does not cut it too well.

forgot to mention that I went from 120-148 less than a year. Of course I started to breathe better after my new lungs but I am not on prednisone so all the weight was gained by stuffing my face throughout the day. Healthy foods are where it is at.

Whenever I would eat too many carbs, I would do the treadmill or the eliptical within a few minutes. I believe the twenty minute workout helped me to gain. Later on, I would increase to forty minutes.

I cannot wait to hear from you in six months when you have gained a good amount of weight. You go Mandi. Keep it up.

hate to say it, but i think you will be tiny forever. as krazykat said, dont stress about it. being skinny isnt a bad thing if its not having a negative effect on your health. ignore your docs threats. i was threatened with a tube when i was young. they failed to accept that everyone in my immediate and extended family were very skinny at that age. you cant change genetics no matter how much you eat.
