Daughter feeling like she can't breath...

My daughter, Kaitlyn, was complaining last night that she couldn't breath when she was lying down. She's never said that before and I wondered if anyone would have some idea what she was feeling and maybe what was causing it.

She hasn't been feeling well for a week now... she's having headaches, a real deep cough and a sore throat. She had seemed to be better the day before yesterday but then last night she was complaining again. She doesn't have a stuffy nose or anything. She said it was definately in her chest... it just felt like she could not breath. She was coughing and it sounded very wet and gunky but nothing was coming up. She has been very healthy up until this past year (she'll be 13 next week) but this last year has been very challenging for her. We're learning way more than we wanted to about being sick.

What makes you feel like you can't breath? Could there be a mucus plug or something? Sorry if I sound ignorant... Gratefully I haven't had that much experience with the girls being really sick...so we're learning...

Thanks very much.

It could be a mucous plug. When Andrew had one it felt like he could only take half breaths...It hurt to breathe in any further.
Good luck...I would definitely call your doctor. It sounds like she needs to be seen.

Thanks for responding. I am waiting for the dr to call me back right now. I live 6 hours away from clinic... we were just there 2 weeks ago but she was fine then. I've been in contact with them via phone every day and I think they are going to probably admit her. I talked to the nurse earlier and she is going to have the dr call me.

This really stinks for her. She had been so healthy... she had not been in the hospital for 9 years... hadn't even been sick... until last December... this will be her 4th stay since then. ARRRGGGGHHHH... I am soooooo frustrated with this stupid disease...

Sorry... just have to vent here because I can't do it in front of her...

Thanks again.

Go ahead Renee vent away, i know the frustration you are feeling. It does sound like she may need to go in for a tune up. You probably already know all this but i'll remind you anyway.... if they do admit her....make sure to take along those sanitizer wipes or get a box of alcohol wipes from the nurse and wipe everything she will touch, even things she wont touch ( just in case). I got cepacia the first time i went in the hospital and after seeing how bad a job of cleaning they do in-between patients being in the room, i now know why i got it. The days of wiping down and sterilizing bedrails ,toilets, sinks, etc. seem to be over for the housekeeping staff. I hope she is feeling better soon <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
