Daughter just starting Pulmozyme

I finally got my doctor to prescribe pulmozyme for my 3 year old and I am just curious what order you all do your meds in.

Currently she does Xopenex while doing her vest and I know she should still do that first, but do any of you do the Pulmozyme while doing your vest or should I wait and do it after the vest? Also she is going to do it one time per day, do you do it morning or evening, does it really matter? Our clinic told us to do it when we have the most time to fit it in.

ALso how long does a Pulmozyme treatment usually take, just curious? We have a Pari Pro Neb Ultra II compressor. ALso do I need to keep the Pari neb used for Pulmozyme separate from the other nebs? We wash and then boil our Pari nebs and masks for a full 10 minutes after every use, so is it okay if they are interchanged or should we have one specific Pari Neb just for Pulmozyme?

Thanks in advance for your replies!!

We do 3 vest/cpt treatments with duoneb (albuterol/atrovent) a day. And because sometimes DS is on tobi, we do the pulmozyme right before he goes to bed. No rhyme of reason, just doesn't confuse my already addled brain.

We use a devilbiss pulmoaid compressor on a daily basis, our backup compressor is the pari proneb ultra. We use pari neb cups, I use a separate neb cup for each med he's on. We do the duoneb while he's doing his vest and then when his vest is done, we start up the pulmozyme. Takes about 5-8 minutes. Doesn't take all that long.

I'm on 3 nebs... Pulmozyme, Colistin, and hypertonic saline. I use a different neb cup for each one. I label them with Sharpie so that I can tell them apart. You really should have a different neb for each one if you can. And if not, you need to wash them thoroughly between meds (like if you boil, you'd need to boil after Pulmozyme before you use another one).

Aidan has been doing Pulmozyne for over a year at our request. It takes about 8-11 minutes with the PARI.

We do Xopenex with VEST for 1/2 hour in AM.
Xopenex, then Pulmozyne while doing VEST for 1/2 hour in PM.
Never had a problem doing them at the same time.

Our little one takes Xopenex, Pulmocort and Pulmozyme. Her doc said to take them in that order after her CPT as the Xopenex is a brochiodilator and the pulmocort is a steroid.
He advised to take them at night right before bed so that she can sleep better as her lungs are more open.
You are supposed to have a different cup for each med even if you boil/ sanitize them and it takes about 10-15 minutes with the Pro Neb II(at least the one we have). With our Trek it takes about 8 minutes.

Hope this helps

Use the Pulmozyme AFTER your finished her CPT (vest). We did it wrong for over 2 years. Doing it right before or during can actually destroy the medication, making it useless.
This is the order we use. Brochodilater (Albuterol Sulfate)- 1st; Ideally wait 15 minutes (we don't always wait because of timing); then Hypertonic Saline; then the vest, then Pulmozyme. I believe we can combine the vest with the AlbSulf and/or HypSaline, but my son doesn't like to do it that way. Maybe when he gets older and wants to save on time. We do the Pulmozyme at night simply because we don't have as much time in the mornings. I actually strap his mask on him in the mornings to do the first 2 nebs (Alb Sulf then HTS) and wake him up to do his vest... that way he gets a little extra sleep.
Good luck!

We do albuterol/atrovent while doing the vest/cpt and in the morning instead of strapping the vest on ds, I still do CPT/nebs while he's sleeping, so he gets an extra hour and a half of sleep before we head out the door. And when DH has been out of town, I have slipped the vest on DS while he sleeps in the morning, hasn't awakened, but was rather restless.
