If you have this type of mutation does it definitely mean that you will be pancreatic deficient from the start?? Or can it occur more gradually?

You have to have the genetic testing done. Usually its done through a CF clinic, but it can be ordered by any physician. Sometimes insurance companies start with the smallest # of mutations (basic panel) because its a cost factor.

There are a few that have such rare mutations they dont exist to be tested YET. Usually these people are given a CF diagnosis based on other symptoms &/or the sweat test results.

Most CFer have had it, but we do have a few that havent or just recently got it & they are older.

Some ?? what the point of knowing is since gene mutation doesnt guarantee outcome.

My answer to that is that certain things in the pipeline for treatment etc are directed toward specific mutations. If you dont know yours, you dont know if you fall into one of the catagories.

I also feel its like your blood type, driving a standard & swimming....everyone should know them because YOU NEVER KNOW when it might come in handy <img src="">
