cf mutations are arranged in 4 "classes"....the classes are differentiated by where the "error" or "genetic mutation" is not functioning properly in the epithelial cell. for example: class 1 is defective protein production, class 2 (df508)is defective processing of the protein between the endoplasmic recticulum and the golgi in the cell, class 3 is defective regulation and class 4 is defective conduction.....the classes are ranked 1-4 and the lower the number the more "problems" or symptoms a person GENERALLY has. there is always exceptions, and the word "severe" is relative to compliance to treatment, environment, and the individual person. my daughter is also a ddf508, usually this means they exhibit both digestive and respiritory issues. some mutations only exhibit respiratory or others digestive, etc.... but there is great research in phase 2 clinical trials being done specifically for the ddf08 mutation which is AWESOME!!! i know it is difficult i was there last year, but you will find great support here. i am a firm believer in being PROACTIVE not reactive about this disease. If you have any questions, ask!! God Bless!

speaking of being proactive and not reactive, that's been the slogan for my blog for a few years.

feel free to explore - and especially learn from Dr. Warwick here:

Nancy,
Don't get in a panic. I am 47 and doing good. I have my few trips to the hospital a year, I have my iv antibiotics every few months<img src="i/expressions/hugging.gif" border="0">, daily treatments, etc, but my life is great!!!
I think you will find that in time you will settle into the idea and not be as scared as you are right now. There are alot of treatments out there that can help make our lives pretty normal. Keep up the faith. A cure is just around the corner.
