if your FEV1 is 65%, then you're moderate.

>90% is normal lung function
89-70% is mild
69-45% is moderate
<45% is severe

i don't think it's a label. there has to be some sort of descriptive word to go along with a number. otherwise no one would have any idea of what the #s meant.

what does an FEV1 of 60% mean if no one has a word for it?

adjectives are part of life.

i once had someone on here, i'm not sure who, freak out that I called CF a disease. well, it's not a television, it's not a donut, it's not a football, nor is it a pair of sunglasses ( i realize these are all nouns and not adjectives but you get the point).

CF is a disease.

just like an FEV1 of 60% is moderate lung disease.

My FEV1 at the moment is 59%, and I was told despit that, that I still have mild CF, so I don't think you can always base things on PFTs.

Amy- I kind of like the way Warwick describes CF. I guess you didn't go for it.
That CF in itself is not a disease. It is the inheritance of two gene mutations that can put you at risk for many diseases. Right now, Aidan is really not diseased at all. His lungs are great, his weight is great. His sinuses- well, they are diseased but so are millions of Americans.

There is always a "text "book answer to this question!!! I hate this question because so many people with CF thinks the magic number is 30%.

We are all going to get sick at some point in our lifes...Why dwell on it? I started doing that and I got depressed and my numbers went downhill fast. It took me deciding not to dwell on the text book answer fo me to start feeling better.

You can choose to live with CF or die from CF...I am sure that I am not making friends with this statement but if we sit around wondering how bad we may have CF...we are not living with it. Then we would be letting ourselves die from it.

I know people who have died from CF but they lived every moment of their lives even when they were on their death bed. They did not care about the"text" book answer.

Sorry this question just gets my fire burning.

As to the original topic, I guess I have a mild version, but I
still feel like crap a lot of the time, regardless of a high fev
(usually between 90-100 I think, been a while).
