Denied coverege of the VEST

We've got the Hill-Rom Vest and tubes and don't pay anything for replacement power cords, vests or tubes.

When we started the process for getting the vest, we were told they usually deny it to begin with and then we have to provide more info -- which we did. They eventually covered it, though there was an amount of a few hundred dollars that we had to come up with. Originally we thought we'd have to come up with 20% of the total costs, so I'd tried to save $, but that wasn't the case. The total cost was $12,000 and change.

Since it is a young child you need it for... I know one of the factors they stressed in the letter from the dr to the insurance company looking for approval for Emily was the large number of school absences she had (she'd missed 35 days of school the year before.) This to them was used as a measure of her health and need for effective therapy.

We have the Hillrom Vest and can get ours replaced indefinitely as well, for growth or if they break- but we have a lifetime warranty vs. the more limited 5yr coverage. (Insurance covered this.) Emily is still in the child small at age 8.5, but she is very little for her age w/ a chest measurement of only about 22". The Velcro is pulled in so much the flaps overlap by several inches in front so I don't foresee her needing a new size for quite a while.

My daughter got her Vest a few months or so ago, she is 4 now. We got it just before my 'work' insurance was cut off. We also have a state funded program that pays for everything CF related. Now, I haven't seen a benefits statement for it from my insurance company...but we don't get one from the state. I would assume I will get one from my insurance company either way...so still waiting! HillRom called once asking for hours on the Vest over a month ago. I am sure we have had it at least 3 months. It is definitely MORE EFFECTIVE than manual chest PT. Very happy we have it.
Oh yeah, I was also told all replacements, hoses, vests and so on would be free. She is also in a child small right now.
