DeVilbiss Pulmo Aide or Pari ProNeb Ultra II?

I'd like to get your opinions on both of these compressors. If anyone has had experience with both of these, please let me know which one you think is better as far as power, longevity, etc.

I got the Pari today at a medical supply store, and was told that the Pari is the better of the two, and is worth about $200. In looking on the internet when I got home, I think I was given some wrong information on the Pari as far as the price.

Thanks guys!

If you take Pulmozyme and Tobi, you should go with the PulmoAide. I believe it has been approved by the CF Foundation to be use with those two medications. PulmoAide breaks down the particles in those meds small enought to make them effective when inhaled. The Pari ProNeb does not. If you use it for just Albuterol or whatever it is you use to open your airways up, then Pari should be okay.

I believe that is right. If anyone else knows any different please correct me.

I personally use Pulmo Aide and love it. It's one machine that takes a while for me to wear out *knock on wood*. However, I've never tried the Pari.

Here's a chart from the Pulmozyme package insert I googled:

"Table 3
Recommended Nebulizer/Compressor Systems

Jet Nebulizer
Compressor

Hudson T Up-draft II® with
Pulmo-Aide®

Marquest Acorn II® with
Pulmo-Aide®

PARI LC Jet+ with
PARI PRONEB®

*PARI BABYtm with
PARI PRONEB®

Durable Sidestream® with
MOBILAIREtm

Durable Sidestream® with Porta-Neb®"

The CF Services Pharmacy sends out Pari LC Plus with my Pulmozyme, Colistin and Tobi, and I use it with my Pari Pro Neb...I went around with my compressor supplier about that- I specifically asked for a Pari, and they sent out something I had never heard of. I had to show them the insert to convince them that there was a specific nebulizer to be used with a specific compressor for my Pulmozyme and not whatever compressor they had in stock...

I have a PulmoAid that is probably 20 years old in a closet somewhere<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">, and I am on my second Proneb Ultra (the first one had a "come apart" and was covered under the warranty) and this one seems to be fine. I liked my other Pari the best, but they don't make it anymore (the one that looked like a thick white book?). I had it for years...

We have a pari proneb ultra (not 2) we use for travel and a devilbiss pulmoaid we have for every day use. The Pari we got thru apria and our insurance company was billed over $350 for it -- this was 4 years ago -- I've since seen the Pari proneb ultra (Now II) for $70-99 online -- american allergy had them for $70 a few weeks ago. The devilbiss, I ordered online and it was about $100, but I've seen them for less and more.

I believe both models can be used for pulmozyme and Tobi and we use the pari neb cups for both. I've been toying with the idea of getting a new proneb ultra because our always has seemed to be quite a bit slower than the devilbiss, but I'd heard mixed reviews on it, so I've just kinda been waiting.

Just wanted to add, that I prefer the compactness of the Pari and the handy side neb cup holder when we travel -- it fits perfectly in a little back back, the devilbiss is kinda bulky, although not huge by any means. It's just a little taller and it has this door that you have to open to reach the tubing area -- sometimes it flaps around/vibrates when doing treatments.

My first Pari Proneb Ultra II didn't last 6 months. I returned it (2 weeks ago) due to it being very loud and rattling fan noise. No questions asked...they sent me a new one. They don't seem to fix this model they just replace it. I had heard this on this site and then found it to be true with my recent return. I believe it has a 5 year warrantee so maybe I'll be having to return it a few more times..ugh! I don't know anything about the DiVilbiss but the Ultra II seems good now that I'm on my second one. Pari has great customer service. My only two beefs with them are: 1) they won't ship product first and allow me to return the bad one afterwards. Hence, I am left w/o a compressor for a few days. I use my Trek for those few days. Maybe this is a big request of me but I feel I've been a trusty customer of them my whole life - - don't I deserve treated well? 2) On my previous air compressor (Pari Proneb Ultra NOT II) they disqualified my warrantee due to "water in the unit" - I know I never spilled anything on it. I feel this was a cop-out of their warrantee.

That's great input -- thanks everyone.

The reason I was asking is because I have both compressors, and I like the Devilbiss better. It is a little bulky for traveling, but I don't travel too much anyway. Anyway, about 8 mos. ago I got a Pari through Apria. It worked well for about 3 mos. and then the motor got really loud, or maybe it was the fan, much like you described, Lauren. So I decided it was more fragile and to use it only for traveling, and went back to my Devilbiss and have used that one since.

Well, my dr. wrote me another prescription for a new Devilbiss Pulmo Aide (I think that's what the prescription said). My current Devilbiss is about 5 yrs. old and wearing down, and I was excited about getting a new one. When I went to Apria yesterday, they gave me a Pari, but I said I wanted the Devilbiss. They insisted that the prescription was written for a Pari. That's when this guy said that the Pari was better and was worth about $200. So I didn't fight him on it. But then I thought, is he yanking my chain for the benefit of Apria? I don't know. My insurance paid for the whole thing, so I didn't want to complain too much.

Lauren, I've seen your post before about Pari customer service and how you're left high and dry until the new compressor arrives. Yes, you do deserve better treatment -- you've been a loyal customer to them. Some of these companies love to pat themselves on the back when it comes to customer service, but when you get right down to it, they don't deliver. That's when I say SEE YA! I won't deal with them if I don't have to.
