My beautiful wife was diagnosed with CF October 2009 at 40 years of age. She has never been tested before. It shocked everyone that she tested postitve for CF including the doctors. My wife has noticed that each year it seemed much more difficult to bounce back from a common cold/flu. She is presently in constant pain throughout her entire body and we are now going to see a pain management doctor to see what they can do. We went to emergency last week because she became dizzy, faint, groggy, disoriented. They gave her 2 doses of morphine and she told me that she still feels the pain but the morphine took the edge off the pain.

Is extreme pain a common symptom for someone with CF?

I wouldn't say that it is common to have that degree of pain, sounds like she may have an underlying problem causing her pain. I am not a doctor, this is just my opinion. I have lung pain associated with CF along with joint pain. Sometimes you can get what is called CF related arthritis, so that may be it if she is having joint pain. What type of pain is she having? Is it all over type of pain or joints? If it is the joints, a rheumatologist would be a good doctor to see. All of this must be overwhelming to all of you, especially the new diagnosis of CF. At least now you know and she can get the proper treatment. I know it still does not make it easier on you though.
I hope you guys find answers soon and that she gets relief from her pain.
Hugs, Jenn

JustDucky,
Your assumption of my wife having underlying problems is correct. We can go back as far as when she was 1.5 yrs old as she feel out of a 2nd story window onto concrete face first and her cousin fell on her that also went out the window as she was trying to keep Promesa (my wife) from falling out of the window. She was in a body cast for a long time. She has had many accidents with broken bones throughout her years and scars from surgeries and being cancer survivor says how determined she is to live life. I love her so much.
We did see a pain management doctor yesterday which has given her some relief with some meds and is taking it a bit further with a procedure called "blocking".
Thank you for your comments and concern.
May you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
God bless you. Go Cowboys!

I was diagnosed at 21 and while my pain was nothing like your wife I can tell you that I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia due to pain before being correctly diagnosed much later with CF. Getting my lungs in proper order finally helped alleveiate alot of my pain. I currently see a masseus and chiropractor regularly for maintenance which helps me alot. I believe my body being under so much stress from not being treated properly puts a huge strain on it and for me that resulted in chronic pain.
