Diagnosed later in life?

i am 22 and was told there is a very high chance i have CF i had bad asthma up until the age of 13 but that went away, then in june 2006 i started coughing, i went to the doctors he said it was the flu, it didnt go away so i went back and he said he would forward me to a specialist, he did and i was told i had phnumonia (sorry for the spelling ^^) then a couple of weeks later they said a bad chect infection, then possible cancer, then a bad chest infection and THEN phnumonia again, now 7 months later they realised that my lungs were full of fluid again and the doctor said its might be CF, this linked with the fact that me and my fiance cant have kids, the asthma, constant chest infections, constant colds and every other illness under the sun since the age of 15 leads me to think that i have got CF

oh and i did that lick yer skin thing and it is salty

on the other hand im glad i cant have kids, i wouldnt like them to have my life

I was 30 when I was diagnosed six years ago. My twin brother had been going to a specialist who recommended that he be tested for CF. When he tested positive they said that I should also be tested. I was pregnant at the time so we waited until I had my son and we were both tested (my son does not have CF- Thank God!)

My Internist for 7 years prior to diagnosis didn't have a clue. Once I changed to my new Primary Physician, I had a Chest X-ray run and had full pnemonia all over my lungs and was hospitalized for 2 weeks. During that time the docs didn't have a clue, thought I had HIV or some other strange disease names, but never thought of CF. Finally, the pulmonologist who treated me during this hospitalization ordered a sweat test, which came up 113 twice. Now I had the name of a disease to explain the symptoms I had for years.

I was diagnosed at 43. I'm now 44. I guess I'm the old guy on the block. I read that the oldest on the discussion board is mid-50's is that true?

i was diagnosed at 44 my sister was diagnosed at 50, that was eleven years ago. i had alot of belly problems that started in my late teens, she had more pulmonary problems, hers also started in her teens...we both had other health problems as little kids.. my sister passed away that year that we were diagnosed, from breast cancer... i happy to say i have four sons and one grandson. i'm very grateful to God that i have been so blessed. Gee, based on what I'm hearing, I pretty much feel like the 50's is the decade to watch out for. I'm not complaining at all. There are so many yong people with CF far worse than mine. I lost my nephew in 2005. He was only 15. So I'm an old man by CF standards. No problem.
