Another parent saw me putting Lauren's equipment back into the van after a weekend of cub scout family camping. He asked how she was doing. I said she was doing great. (I always say that, unless she is really, really, really bad.) He then commented, "And they still make her do all that stuff?" Well, yes, I said. Doing all that stuff keeps her doing great. Just think, I said, about the kids who were born CF when we were young. They often didn't make it this far. And then he said,

"That's why our population has gotten so big" and walked away. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0"> I'm sorry to say that I was too stunned to respond. I just muttered to myself that I am thankful that Lauren is part of that increased population.

I need a snappy comeback for the next time someone says sometime like this. Any suggestions?

"No, it's because of ignorant jerks like you that they allow to reproduce!" or subsitute something more colorful for "jerks".

I bet this jerk had children of his own. Ask Him what He would
do if one of his children had Cf.

This person should not be allowed near children.

We all have statically 4 recesive genes - I guess "it" has no brain. Ask him will he kill himself once he gets cancer....
Anyway - SMACK HIM AGAIN and talk to other parents - fathers - to SMACK HIM ONCE MORE.

I think you're totally over reacting. I don't get the feeling he meant anything bad by his comment, if he was such a jerk he wouldn't have asked after her in the first place. I'm sure your life is quite stressful enough without you adding to it by assuming the worst of somebody's throw away comment. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Maybe he was referring to how far we have come with medical research, technology etc. After all cancer patient are also living longer and so on.

But, still I would smack him just for having said the thought. HE was not thinking or else he never would have something like that out loud.

from comments we've heard I know alot of people wouldn't be doing therapies, medication we do for Jess on a regular basis because she is doing well right now.
but we know how quickly that could change.
We do the prescribed treatments.

but it's not often thown in our face with rude comments.
