Hi there, My daughter is almost 5 and we have been struggling with constipation for a few years now. My daughters GI had a sweat test (didnt tell us what a sweat test was for....thats a whole other story!!!) done and it came back a 56. She doesnt have ANY pulmonary problems and is never sick. As long as she takes Miralax every day she is fine. We are going in tomorrow for another sweat test and blood work. Anyone go through the same and what was the final outcome??

I would push for the genetic testing, and have the long test done where they test for all of the known mutations, not just the most common.

I have two daughters with CF, and my girls really didn't have much lung issues until they got a bit older. My younger one still doesn't. They both have always had upper respiratory issues though.

CF presents itself in many different ways. It would be a good idea to rule it out completely.

I had no lung involvement until a few years after my diagnoses. My problems were all digestive. However; I had diahrea not constipation. CF shows differently in many patients. I would push for the full genetic panel.

Ditto on the full genetic testing -- that will tell you for sure.

But yes, it is possible to not have any lung issues yet (my son is almost 21 years old) and has very little lung problems (no daily treatment - only had oral antibiotics one time) and he is pancreatic sufficient so he also has problems with constipation.

If you have time, read my blog page (link in my signature line) it will tell you more about A-Typical cases.... this might be where your daughter falls too.
