Distilled Water Danger!

Sterile water is usually pharmaceutical grade. Correct me if I am wrong someone.

Sterile saline water is usually used in IV therapies and for irrigation purposes. there are different types of sterile water.

Distilled water is not sterile. Sterile is made under a hood.

I buy distilled water and use it to boil with when cleaning my neb parts. I boil it in the distilled water for 15 minutes. I like using distilled to boil with rather than tap because tap water leaves a white film on my nebs where with distilled water the neb parts are crystal clear after boiling.

Does anyone else notice a while film on their nebs when they use tap water to boil with? I just figured it was a mineral deposit of some sort that I could do without breathing into my lungs.

All of our toddler masks get the film on them after boiling with tap water also. I've always used tap, maybe I should try distilled now that I won't be using that for the sinuses!

let us know if you notice "no white film" after using the distilled water on the toddler masks.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

We have very hard water in our area. If you don't have a water softener, calcium deposits build up on everything. I can usually tell when we need to add salt to the softener because the a film starts to form on the nebs, etc.

Hmmm...

So, I've been BOILING my treatment parts in distilled and bottled water for years cause our tap water leaves a white residue on them. So, is it bad to use it to BOIL parts in??? Wouldn't the boiling kill what is in the water as well???

This is very frustrating. It is virtually impossible for me to get a large enough amount of sterile water from the clinic or anywhere that I know of to be able to use it to boil every treatment. I go through nearly a gallon every other day!

Thanks,</end quote></div>

This was my post several posts back!

Funny, my doc said I was the ONLY one with such a problem and wouldn't give me a letter stating I had to have bottled/distilled water to boil my parts in for sanitation reasons (so I could deduct it as a medical expense). I was pretty upset she wouldn't do it for me. I doubt she'd want me breathing in that white crap!

So what if you wash parts in the dishwasher? Our dr said that the drying kills all bacterias ect.. is that true? Obviously you cant do all parts but the ones that you can, is that ok?
