Do most people with CF die from it?

yes nearly all people with cf die from it but the average life of a cf person is up to 36 and gets higher each year and there are people on this site with cf that are in their mid 50s maybe some even older, and nearly all of the treatments used today have only been around for about 18-20 years at the most, lots newer. if they can come up with that many treatments in that short a time (for something like cf, that is a very short amount of time) think about what they will have in another 20 years

Pretty much what the others said. Unless you die from something else (cancer, an accident, etc), chances are, CF is going to kill you. People are living longer with it, but whenever you do die, it'll probably be at the hands of the CF.

i have a 10 yr old sister w/ cf, the problem is my ma smokes in the house. she thinks if she uses a fan or a curtain to shield her from it, its ok. but she lets her in the very same room afterwards. the house is filthy. not because they're lazy, but she has 3 younger kids and they live in a very small, very confined apt. its always cluttered and they now have roaches. no matter how much i try to help her find a way to make things better for them so its not so dirty, she always thinks i am trying to tell her how to take care of her kids. i love my family so much, i just want a better life for them. my fear is that my sister is going to die at a young age b/c of how my ma has them living. what can i do...is there anyone out there who can give some helpful advice?
