I cannot tell you how important it is/will be to your child to NOT make them feel any more different than they already will! It would probably have one of two outcomes: She will hate you for it, or she will be afraid to do anything. My parents never held me back, just made sure I understood how important hand washing is and not to share drinks and stuff with other kids.

Try not to let fear take too much from you. She will be fine if she gets sick and will go throught the normal series of colds and flus. It is important to let her build her immune system and not hide her away. Emotional and mental balance plays just as big a role in health and well-being as the physical aspects. She needs to play outside in all kinds of weather, get sunshine and be with other children to laugh and play. Please don't let CF change what you originally wished for your child before you knew she had CF. Give her a life filled with love and experiences, not fear. It will be okay...we all go through times when it feels really scary, but try to step back a bit. She is strong and your belief that she is strong can move mountains. Our thoughts and beliefs about our kids create the energy that will surround and support them through life. I understand where you are coming from and I hope you know we all support you. We all may have to go through tough times but we have to be in the moment enjoying life not waiting for it to come. I try to tell myself that he has just as good a chance that things won't be too hard. It seems to help me let go of the fears.

e hug to you...

I let my 2 year old son do everything I would have had he not had CF (OK maybe not the McDonalds play yard thing). When he was first diagnosed I was really scared bout it but I was able to let go and let him just live his life. Lately he's caught every bug under the sun (even though I do hand wash, wipe down shopping carts etc.). It's impossible to know where they catch these things. But time and time again he recovers from these colds and viruses. He is frequently on antibiotics which I hate but I gladly trade that for a 'normal' life. I'm also hoping that he's building up immunities like all the other kiddos his age. They can and do get over common childhood illnesses with a little extra help sometimes.

Good luck finding what feels right for you.
