my doctors said that your lungs will take the calories you eat to help them heal when you are sick. i think they were talking about seriously sick, like pneumonia or flu or somehting. but does it apply to a cold? like if you have a cold is it normal to drop a couple pounds?

CFers burn more calories all the time because we usually carry some kind of bug and we are always kind of fighting....even when there is no exacerabation. Of course, we burn more calories depending on how sick we are. I think with a cold we also tend to eat less.....at least that is what happens to me. It just kind of happens that way because you may feel a bit feverish. They also put us on antibiotics that make food tasteless or less appealing. So we may think we are eating as much, when in fact we are probably not.

I think this is true. I had a pretty bad cold back in May, which I needed oral antibiotics to treat. The weekend I got it, we went to Florida for a wedding and I ate so much food and yet lost about 5 lbs. over the course of 4 days. I think all the coughing burned off the calories and drained my energy.
