<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">My daughter just turned 2. We just recently switched to a new peditrician and during the first visit I mentioned her breathing...She had pneumonia 3 times in 2 years one of those times she had RSV. RSV only one time though. Her old pedatrician dx her with asmtha (although not testing was done). And once she was in the hospital with pneumonia and high fever.

Her height and weight is in the 50% percentile, she eats very well (when she is served something she wants to eat), she does not really cought severely. No one that we know has cf? The only reason for the testing is because she needs the nebulizer.

A non-certified lab did 2 sweat tests with results of 57 & 64. Today we went to a certified childrens pulmanory hospital and her results were 42. Do you think she has cf? She takes Pulmacort and Xoponex in her nebulizer nightly...could that effect the results? Do you think she has cf or do you think she may have something unrelated to cf?

I'm sure you are very confused right now. I think that with those sweat numbers, I'd want to see genetic testing done. Borderline sweats aren't too common, but my daughter had them (53 and 45) and has CF, and I've seen many people on the site with that situaiton. Of course there aren't too many that have borderline sweats and negative genetics that come around here, so our view may be skewed. But for your peace of mind, I'd say its important to have a full mutation analysis done.

Just so you know, not all CF kids cough at 2 years old. My daughter has had her upper respiratory problems, but has a baseline of no cough. The symptoms of CF vary widely and develop for different patients at different ages.

Good luck and welcome to the site.

When did you find out your daughter had cf? What were her first symtpoms? I am trying to see if she had any signs when she was younger. Thank you for all your help!
