Thank you all for the kind words!!

Dr Noel really is a GREAT doctor! I always know he is going to do everything possible to help Courtney, even if that means chewing her out.

She did not give a reason when he asked. She just started to cry. I was talking to Lindsey and Allie yesterday in chat and I guess I am going to have her talk to someone just in case it is a "model thin" issue.

Courtney and I had a fight about her meds a few weeks ago and when I asked her why she was not taking them she said, actually she screamed at me "I DON'T THINK ABOUT THE FACT THAT I HAVE CF EVERYDAY...THATS WHY I DON'T TAKE THEM!" I told her it was great that she does not dwell on the fact she has CF, but that does not excuse her not taking her meds.

Jessi....she really is VERY thin. Her highest weight so far has been 85 pounds. When she was diagnosed at the age of 10 her weight was TERRIBLE. I stood in the doctors office and stomped my feet like a child and cried. I told the doc there had to be a reason I had a 10 year old child that only weighed 48 POUNDS. She was truely skin and bones then.

Seana, I wish Josh could have Courtney's doctor. Although we trust our doctor with our kids CF issues, she's not so good with emotional issues. SHe has said things to Josh before about compliance of meds and nutrition and he really feels remorseful while he's there, but he slides right back into the same pattern when he gets home. He really doesn't have a reason. He just doesn't do it. It drives us crazy but we're trying to back off. Its so hard to watch, but it is his issue to deal with.

Josh has never had someone from his CF clinic really get in his face and be really angry.

By the way, he is about 5'2" now and weighs 85.

Your doctor handled it very well...
But you handled it extremely well. Many parents would have chimed in with a lecture and not let the doctor get a word in edgewise. My mom, bless her nutty heart, did that all the time. Finally when I was 17 my doctor kicked her out and for the first time said to me as soon as the door shut...said, "It is just so good to get you away from her, there are things I need to say and things you need to get out that you just can't say in front of her, right?" Even well meaning hard working parents can smother their kids. So kudos to you!!!!!! Good job! She WILL learn how to be accountable this way. It may just take some time and maturity.

He does sound like a great doctor but it's a pity he chose the term 'model thin'........doh!! Not sure if i'm remembering correctly but isn't Courtenay interested in being a model one day soon??? She is certainly very beautiful and i think i recall her interest in modelling from a previous thread.
Lets face it, today's children are obese and getting worse by the minute, somebody who therefore is very thin stands out even more than they used to and their 'stock' rises.......what seems further and further from the average person's reach becomes more and more valuable. Thin is becoming quite the commodity.

Perhaps a part of Courtenay is worried that if she starts to take her meds, she will put on weight and lose her ability to model? Stop standing out in the crowd and being the envy of all her teenage girlfriends?

It's a shame the doctor didnt call her 'concentration camp thin' or 'drug addict thin'.....something with more negative connotations might have been a better idea.

I never thought about that KrazyKat! She does have interest in modeling so him using the term "model thin" was probably not a good thing to do!

Christian, thank you for your kind words. I really try hard to not be the smothering mother. Everytime any of my kids have a doc appointment I always give them a chance to ask me to leave the room so they can talk to the doc alone. I tell them there is no strings attached and if they ask me to leave I will never question them on what they talked about with the doc.

Jane, Josh do not look real thin in his pictures. I was quite surprised when you said he weighs about the same as Courtney. Going by his pics you would never know he had weight issues.

Again...thank you all for your kind words. It's nice to hear from CFers saying that I am handling the situation well!
