I live in California so I went on the Ca. DMV website and printed out the application and took it to my doctor. It was a very easy paper to fill out, the doctor just had to sign it verifying I really needed it. I believe the requirements for a lung disability was like your PFT's being below a certain number. But they didn't require proof of the PFT, just the doc's signature.

I have one as well. I believe my mom went to the DMV, got some form, and had my doc sign it, similar to what Lindsey said. It wasn't too hard, and they approved it for me without blinking.

Emily, same with me. I just had the doc sign a paper and I was all set. It's so much better having a parking permit.

as long as you only use it if you need to. if i pull into a parking lot and there is only one spot left and i am feeling good then i will park further away in a normal spot and keep the handicapped open(hopefully) for someone who needs it.

Ya I only use it when I need it but it's becoming more often. My PFT's are about 22 and most of the time I can't walk too far or then I will start having trouble breathing and then go into a coughing fit. I always get dirty looks too whenever I use it.

S, 27 w/CF, I do the same. My boyfriend sometimes looks at me like "why the hell don't you just use the permit?" But I've told him 100 times before, I only use it if I feel I need it.And Nicole, so do I. Always with the dirty looks, because we don't "look" handicapped. Sometimes when I get out of my car, I walk a little slower, or cough some just to maybe give people a clue. Heh.

The thing is I think they see me and think geez she isn't sick at all because I am very girly and I really like to look nice and dress up so I could see why they give me dirty looks but still it's annoying! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">
