Hi, Tiffany

I've had a port for about five years now, and it's worked great for me. I'm hospitalized every 3-4 months, so eventually, my veins started to just 'disappear' too and it was hard to get IV's started. I didn't want to get it, but trust me, being stuck with a needle is much better than having an IV shoved up your arm. The pain after the sugery isn't too bad. Mine lasted for about a week, and since mine was implanted in my chest, I couldn't sit up very comfortably for about three days. But it's definately worth it. I've heard that the ports have to be replaced every eight to ten years, but I still think that it's the best thing to have done. If you decide to get one, you won't regret it. Good luck!
