Does anyone have trouble laying flat at the dentist?

I hate going to the dentist. I don't enjoy anything involved with them, but I really hate having to lay flat for so long for cleaning, etc. For one thing, it makes me have to cough (not normal cough...like tons of phlegm breaking up in there/uncontrollable cough) and I'm really afraid of having a bleed because lying flat was a trigger in the past.

Does anyone else have this problem or have any suggestions on how to make things a little easier?

I had trouble laying flat before my tx definitely. If you tell them usually they will try their best to accommodate you, sometimes sit you up more. Also they stopped using the rubber dam for fillings because I could hardly breathe with it. Also they might be able to sit you up when you start coughing and that might help.

Sorry I don't have anything more.

My new dentist didn't lay me flat for that reason, "So you won't cough and choke on me!" and I sat 'reclined' but not flat. (think 45 degree angle) Even while I had 2 fillings placed. Also, he gave me hand signal, anytime I had to cough or need a break or wanted to sit up, I'd do the hand gesture and he would sit me up with a cup of water at the ready. So it is possible to get your teeth done not laying down. Just speak up and see if he can accommodate you, if not, there is a dentist out there who will. =)

I have always told them that I can't lay flat
also, the dentist has always accommodated me by
telling me to tell Him when to stop when laying the
chair back.
