what kind of sounds do you commonly hear in a child with cf?

I'm a nurse, and I have the habit (mabye a bad one) of listening to my daughter's lungs very often. I've been hearing wheezing and ronchi (not sure about this english word) for the last few months and yesterday and today, I'm pretty sure there is crackling too (although very light)

she has not been diagnosed yet...where having trouble with the sweat test....(see other posts)

Yes, ronchi, crackles, and wheezing...
My spouse is an RT (and I'm a nurse) and will occasionally listen to my lungs too. I think it's just natural to want to listen if you're a nurse. It's nice to have people in the medical field in the family!

Hi there,

I am a nurse too. On a daily basis I do not listen to my daughter's lungs. If she is getting sick and coughing I may listen to make sure it's not heading to her lungs. Once, she started wheezing and needed prednisone, so I listened every day to make sure the wheezing went away. I often think if I'm thinking I need to listen to her lungs with a stethescope; it's time for me to be calling the doctor for his input. On a day to day , basis my daughter's lungs sound clear. i think it's good to know the baseline of your child's lung sounds so when something comes up you'll know it's time to take action. However, I always want my daughter to see me as Mom first and nurse second.

I only listen to Andrew when he is coming down with something. The last time we were admitted a nurse on the floor gave me a stethescope to take home and taught me what to listen for. I still don't think I know exactly what to listen for, but I do check to make sure there is no wheezing or crackling, and that it sounds like he is moving as much air on one side as he is on the other.
