does anyone nebulize saline

My cf clinic has recommending trying a 3% solution of saline in a nebulizer for my son's sinuses. He is chronically stuffed up and we don't want to hold him down to shoot saline solution into his nose. We think we will give this a try.

Does anyone else just use a saline solution? How do you get it as my phramacy seems confused? They only carry a .9% solution.

They're referring to hypertonic saline, which is basically a prescription.

On a side note, for years we used simply saline aerosol sinus spray, which comes in a .9 and a 3% formula on DS, but it wasn't until he was 4 and I had him try a sinus rinse kit that we noticed how much crud was up his nose. Hopefully when your son is a little older that will be an option for him to try.

Our daughter started consistently on hypertonic saline around 1 year old. It was quite a battle, but with consistency came a better attitude. I found the trick at first was suckers and good cartoons, thankfully she does it now without needing the candy sucker but still always watches cartoons except a few times when we read stories. For me it was a tough addition to our daily routine because of the hastle of setting up the neb, doing it, sterilizing te equipment & drying it. But, I'm so used to it now that it's not so bad anymore. Hope you have an easy transition!

It sounds like we've got the hypertonic saline sorted out. Just filling in some forms before the equipment comes home. CF and forms seem to go together. My hope is that computer games will make wearing the mask more attractive.

My 1 year old has used the 3% since shortly after birth. It seem to help alot. My 5 year old just started the 7% last year and it really clears everything out! Causes lots of coughing if they are sick and congested though. That's all I have for now, daughter is screaming mad! LOL PM me if you have any questions <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">)

My daughter just started using it three months ago, and she hasn't had a running nose since. Hopefully this will be a trend, because she used to get runny noses all the time.
