hi

i have a little grand-daughter who has been sickly since birth. she is 15 months old and weighs 15lbs 10oz.she had a sweat test last year when she was 7 weeks old which was negative.
she has the following symtoms;
SUGAR INTOLERENCE
LUNG INFLAMATION
FAILURE TO THRIVE
CONSTANT DIARRHEA
FOUL SMELLING STOOLS
BAD SWEATS

her cousin on her dads side has cf. i also have a second cousin who has 3 children with cf.
is there other tests besides the sweat she could to either diagnose or rule out cf??
thank you
martina.

Genetic blood tests are really the only way to determine if the child has cf or not. There are several people on this site, including our child who passed the sweat test with flying colors, onlyto find thru blood tests they did in fact have CF.

Due to the symptoms and family history, it would be wise to have additional testing done.

Welcome to the site. I have to say absolutely get genetic testing! I'm really surprised this hasn't been done already considering you have CF on both sides of the family.

Your granddaughter needs to be taken to a certified CF clinic as soon as possible. Getting the proper treatment can make a world of difference for her. I wish you the best. Please let us know what you find.

yes the genetic test is what you need to be done, and in your case maybe is easier than in others because you can ask your relatives which mutation they have (are more than 1600) and in the lab they can check for this mutations first.
you can ask steve in this section from ambry genetic how to do it (the first topic).
good luck
