Does taking a '-mycin' drug affect your menstrual cycle?

I came down with a horrible sinus infection a couple of weeks ago that immediately went to my lungs. That was around ovulation time. I started taking zythromycin but was still heavily congested when I came down with my husband's cold. So I began doing the Tobi regimen.Problem is, I'm still very congested and my period is nowhere to be seen. So did zythromycin delay its onset? I know in the past it's affected my menstrual cycle but not to this extent. Or could Tobi be doing it? Or both? I haven't been on Tobi in over a year, so I don't remember if it had menstrual effects on me.Please tell me if any of these drugs affected your period in some way. Or if you know they don't, please tell me that too. Thanks so much.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Debbie, diagnosed with CF at birth, intermittent CFRD, hypothyroid

I have never had a med affect my menstrual cycle, but being sick has! I once skipped a whole month and went to the doc worried something was wrong (I am normally like clock work) and she informed me that being sick, stress (which often accompanies being sick), big changes, even vacations can delay a cycle for a woman. When you recover your cycle will likely return. Would love to hear what others say though!

If your period was delayed I'm guessing it was due to the illness and the stress of it - not the drugs. I'm like clockwork though and nothing seems to stress my body out enough to delay ovulation. And remember - ovulation can be delayed but the phase after ovulation (luteal phase) does not get delayed at all unless you are pregnant. Stress does not affect it. Take a pregnancy test just to be sure :)

Stress does not affect it. Take a pregnancy test just to be sure My husband keeps asking me when I plan on taking a preg test because he firmly believes we're pregnant. But we've been ttc'ing for over three years now and I'm too scared to hope so hard and see that negative result again! Every single time I've done a pregnancy test, it was only to see that one line. It's been soooo hard to see that, I just haven't tested in forever. And every time I think of doing it now, the image of that one line on the stick flashes before me and I just feel like crying all over again. So I just keep telling my husband what you guys are saying: illness delays ovulation, illness can make you skip a whole period, my 'mycin' drugs could be delaying it, etc etc. But my DH just smiles and patiently sticks with his assertion. That's why I came on here to see if anyone's had similar reactions to drugs or even just plain illness. Because honestly, it hurts too much to hope that we're actually pregnant after all this time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Debbie, diagnosed with CF at birth, intermittent CFRD, hypothyroid

My heart hurts for you! Well at least you will know sooner or later whether you are pregnant or not. Maybe your husband knows something...

My heart hurts for you! Well at least you will know sooner or later whether you are pregnant or not. Maybe your husband knows something...Thanks Keepercjr. Your empathy made me feel better. To update, we are not pregnant. I haven't gotten my period yet, despite it being day 42 (or thereabouts, I've lost track already) of my cycle, but I feel it coming soon. Had a blood test taken to be sure. Seems like my exacerbation really DID mess up my cycle! Wow, I've been sick before (swine flu, bronchitis) and never noticed it adding more than a few days to the cycle. So weird.Of course, had to break the news to my DH. I felt awful for him. Surprisingly enough, after seeing that first negative at-home pregnancy test, I calmed down and was able to handle the next two equally-fruitless pee test results easily. Guess I should be grateful we're not pregnant while still trying to get over this bug.
