Does your child cough?

When babies are little they cough for so many reasons it is mostly difficult to pinpoint why. She could be a particularly early teether causing her to have more mucus in her throat but not necessarily in her lungs. Getting the doctor to listen to her chest is a good indication if she is in fact clear or not. When we are not sure it is always best to see the doc just in case.

I will say this though, my girls do not cough when they are well. More recently my eldest daughter could not shake off a cold/cough she had caught and she ended up getting a tune up. Even after the tune up she still couldn't shake the last part of her cough. I started thinking 'does this mean she is now a cfer who coughs daily simply because she has cf but is not necessarily sick?'. Long story short I decided the meds had done what they could and now it was time to up the excercise. We took her and ehr little sister swimming every day for 3 weeks which of course she loved and guess what...no cough! It has completely gone and she is back to her normal health with her fev1 stable at 125. While she was sick they dropped to around 90 but hse was also struggling to blow properly.

This is not the first time I have noticed swimming makes a massive difference in the girls health so now we have kept both girls in weekly swimming classes.

Our doctor has instructed us to "learn his cough" -- is is postnasal drip, dry cough, productive, reflux.... .</end quote></div>

That's so true Liza, you really get an ear for the difference. I can always tell.

My older son didn't cough at all until he was 9. He still only coughs when he's sick or during allergy season. My other son has a constant cough.

We had our monthly visit at the CF clinic yesterday. She actually coughed once while we were there so they got to hear her.

They said it could be many things:
Some babies cough more than others.
Could be the dry & cold weather is making her cough.

They did not think it was anything to do with CF or her lungs. They listened to her chest and it was clear. It was also time for her routine lung culutre. So they did that. They will let me know in a couple of days what the result of that was.
