Doing meds

Hey guys,

I always use a noisy and bulky "Porta-Neb" for doing my inhaling medicine, like pulmozyme etc.

My neighbours and parents love it when they try to sleep!
Also when ill travel it would be nice to have something smaller and easy to carry arround kinda thing.

Though Its extremely noisy and bulky, I just find it works better than the "e-flow".

Im wondering, how many of you use a noisy porta-Neb for inhaling your meds?
Or do you have an E-flow?
Or something else?

Which one you prefer to use?

And what do you use while traveling?

Let me know!

Thanks

I use a Pari Vios for my day-to-day treatments, and I have a Pari Trek S for when I have to go out of town or spend an afternoon out. In reality though, the Vios only weighs like 5 pounds so before I got the smaller one, it really wasn't an issue to toss it in my backpack and take it when I went out of town (my doctor is in another city.) The Vios is a little loud, but I generally use headphones when I use it. My roommates probably got sick of it, but it's not so loud that it's a huge bother from another room or if I close my door. The smaller one doesn't have the same power as the Vios, taking about 15 minutes to do an albuterol treatment compared to 8-10, but it never hurts to have a backup. Especially since I burn through the Vioses every 6 months or so. They replace them quickly, but it's still a bother.

I've got a Phillips Respironics Inspiration that has worked well for me going on 3 years. I had a Vios for a couple weeks but got a lemon, so I traded it back for the Phillips. The Respironics is a bit bulky and I wouldn't call it quiet, but I still have taken it when traveling, including a couple camp-outs. I think there is a 'micro' respironics and at times I think it would be nice to get a neb pump that is a little more portable (and even DC powered) for travel, but haven't looked into it much.

We have a pari vios we use for travel. Also have a Phillips Respironics, which we got as a trade when ds' devilbiss pulmoaide died and the local DME (Durable Medical Equipment) company gave me the run around about the warranty. Pari's tend wear out over time; but their warranties are 5 years and I never had issues sending it back and having them send me a new one the next day. I loved the devilbiss, it was quiet; however, it's bulky, too. Their policy of having you go thru a DME for warranty work was impossible -- it'd take 3-4 weeks to get a replacement or repaired nebulizer back. :(

It was our primary one for home until we got a mobilaire (sp). When DS was younger, I looked into the pari trek; however, it wasn't usable with tobi as the psi wasn't strong enough to get the medicine into the lungs. Our cars have plug ins, so we can just plug in the nebulizer on the go.

I use a Inspiration - I think the mfr. is Respiornics it as is very nosiey I don't travel much but I did go away a few years ago and was able to obtain a Omron very light hand held - also can be used with 4 AA batteries my problem with that was cleaning it?? wld just use soapy water and let it air dry and I wld also use my pulzomye in the same cup right after my Albterol just rinsied it with water. Not sure this was the right thing to do?? Pat
