Hey guys!

I live away at school in the dorms and I've been feeling so crappy! I'm getting really bad nausea and every time I cough I end up gagging. I went to the doc and he said he couldn't find anything wrong. I'm on a bunch of different meds (cipro, sporonox, doxicycline, bactrum, vit K, adeks, and my enzymes) not many of those have been known to give me such problems, but could it just be side affects? I was reading a recent post about nausea and bloating and I'm a fan of the whole idea of eating what's appealing to you when you're actually hungry...but I live in the dorms and the food is horrible! It's hard to keep stuff like milk and cheese and things in the room b/c it spoils easily and I share a tiny fridge with the roomie...do you guys have any suggestions?

thanks!

My daughter is also in college. She agrees with you about most of the dorm food. She has always bought and kept in her room, things like Mac N cheese, pasta and rice packs, Cereal, granola bars, oatmeal. Things that don't require the refridge. She is also a HUGE milk drinker so we ended up getting her a larger dorm refridge.
There are a lot of instant foods out there that can me made by heating water in the microwave

How about requesting a private room for your kids in college? Emily's college was very supportive about getting her what she needed to make her first year in college as easy as possible for her needs. She is in her second year and in her own apartment on campus, so she can do her own cooking. She still eats in one of the cafeterias because they have a stir fry thingy she likes but she can cook and eat when she wants and what she likes in her apartment. They also set her class schedule so her classes are as close to her apartment (and each other) as possible and her classes are scheduled so she doesn't have to run all over campus to get to each class. See if they have a Disability Resource Center at your child's school and ask for help.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Hey Erin! I'm also living in the dorms at college. Like one of the previous posters said, I got a larger refrgerator so that I can fit in all of my Tobi and Pulmozyme, plus milk, meat and cheese for sandwiches, fruit, vegetables, yogurt, all that good stuff! And also like she said, with a microwave you can do oatmeal, pasta, soup, and other things. I eat at the cafeteria once a day (which by the way, I absolutely love most of the time...I'm sorry yours does not have better food!) and the other two meals I eat in my room. My biggest problem is that with food in my room, I tend to just eat and eat whenever I'm in there, rather than at specific meal times, so I sometimes get a little off on how many enzymes I should take when, so then I don't feel good, but other than that it works pretty well for me. Even without a kitchen, I am generally able to have something that sounds good to me in my room that either doesn't need cooked, or just needs a microwave. I hope you can get everything worked out and get to feeling better soon!

I just started college this year and though the food isn't too bad, it just became unappetizing, especially when I start to feel crummy. I just got a fridge so I can keep cold goods, but if anyone has any tips about eating at school, I'd appreciate it. the kitchen where I eat makes all of its food with oil (its dripping!) so even when I take my enzymes, i still feel bad afterwards and when I forget, its bad. besides for that, school is great. Hope all are well,
