Dr. Appt.

Everything looked great at dr. appt.; pft's were great, I'm not sick, blood levels good except white blood cell count was low. What could this be? The dr. dismissed it as probably being a mistake. But he didn't opt to get it rechecked. I dismissed it as well, until the next day I shared this info with my hubby and he is definetly against the idea of dismissing it. He wants to know why, how, and to get it rechecked. I didn't mention to the dr. that I have been feeling exhausted but I chalked that up to increasing my exercise regimen and just the symptoms of having CF. Right? What is your opinion?

I would demand the test be done again. Low white count can mean additional concerns; however, they can also be affected by stress, drugs. WBC also tend to be lower in the morning.

There could very well be nothing wrong, but I wouldnt brush it off as easy as he did.

You already have CF going on.....just in case you didnt know <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

I think it would depend on how low the white blood cell count was. I found this article:

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>A normal white blood cell count ranges from 4,500 to 10,000 cells per microliter of blood. A mild decrease in white blood cells below 4,500 cells per microliter doesn't necessarily indicate a serious illness. However, a dangerously low white blood cell count - below 2,500 cells per microliter - increases the risk of serious infection.
</end quote></div><a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.valleyhealth.com/Health_Library/Article.asp?content_id=293&PID=">http://www.valleyhealth.com/He...sp?content_id=293&PID=</a>

I called the dr. today and he ordered another blood test to check it. This test was done in July so hopefully it hasn't gone down any lower. The count is 3.8. So of course it's not supper bad but I usually have a fine count even when I am sick. I am not sick right now. So I think I'm not.
