ok so my silly body has decided to react to almost every dressing i put over my port. tegardem, opsite iv 3000, even hydrocoll! so now i have to use the most teeny tiny amount fixomull as a dressing. but as some of you know that comes on a roll and isnt sterile. anyone know of a fabric dressing like fixomull that is sterile?

oh my poor skin. its rashy, red and bleeding!

Oooh Kylie, I feel your pain from here in NY....I am sensitive but not nearly as sensitive as you are, I wish I could help you out there...it sounds like you have tried just about everything. I hope you find something that works for you, I will ask some of my nurse buddies if there are any new dressings out there, or just research it myself. I hope you find comfort, hugs Jenn <img src="i/expressions/rose.gif" border="0">

I am very sensitive as well. I was introduced to medipore tape it acts like a fabric tape with tiny holes in it. IT is better for me than tegaderm. If you sweat you might have to put on another one to cover it. I feel for you. I would call home health stores and ask your doctor to help with the research.

is the medipore sterile? does anyone know if the dressing even needs to be sterile? i was just assuming it needed to be. ive emailed smith and nephew australia to see if they have something otherwise if i cant find anything sterile then the fixomull will have to do.

Hello again..I did find some info about Medipore regarding frequently asked questions about the product, it isn't sterile, but it does mention some products that are. Ideally, your covering on your port should be sterile as possible to avoid contamination with bacteria and other bugs. Here is the link for you to look at, hope it helps you...

hmmmm. im thinking maybe i should get one of the sterile dresings with a pad in the middle, cut off the outside edges and use them. these fabric dressings seem to be either non sterile without a pad or sterile with one! grrrr.

actually, hold that thought on the fabric dressing. i think im reacting to the fixomull too. the rash that is under it is getting more itchy and i think the skin on the bumps are breaking open and oozing!!! what on earth am i supposed to do? ive pretty much tried every darn dressing there is.
