Drug Reaction?

Hello, all. Got a question for you. Right now, I'm on home IV's with Meropenem, Tobra, and an oral called Zyvox. For the past two nights, I've gotten a really strange reaction. The Tobra is only run once a day, at about 8 PM. The Meropenem is every 8 hours, and I run the two meds back to back. Here's the thing. After I do the Tobra, my lips start to tingle, and then for the past two nights I've had tingling in my arms, almost like a painful numbness, along with pain in my neck and jaw. And I'll stay that way until the wee hours of the morning.

Has anyone had this kind of reaction to the Tobra?! Its driving me nuts here! I'm going to call my doc, of course, but I wanted to know from you all if you've ever had these symptoms. I'm pretty sure its a reaction to the Tobra because it only happens AFTER I run that dose.

Thanks for any feedback.

Hi Lilith, i'm certain that sounds like a reaction, although i can't give you info on personal experience i highly recommend you see a doc ASAP. Having a reaction to medication could be harmful, so i would do something right away.

Good luck<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

that is DEFINATELY a reaction. id stop the tobra immediately and call your doctor... unless you have anal hospital staff like mine who will accuse you of being non complient if you stop something due to a reaction.

Hi Lilith...

I was on the same IV regemin as you back in november, except that I was taking IV zyvox. I also did my meropenem and tobra back to back, and had tingling lips and fingerips almost as soon as the infusion started lasting for a full hour after i was done with the tobi.

I asked the doctor and he said it was no big deal, as long as i wasn't having trouble breathing he was wasn't concerned that it was an allergic reaction.

I hope this brings you some peace of mind.

I also had the same reaction as you. It felt like I was numb from a dentist appt or something. My doctor also said that it was no big deal and I did some research and it did say it was a side effect. He kept me on the med and after awhile I got used to it. But he did say that it was no a problem, just an annoyance

I remember about twenty years ago I was given I think pepercillian and whenever they would put it into my veins, I felt like someone was pouring pepper into me. That is why I remember the name after all these years. I think that was an allergy and I had them switch me

Hi Lilith,
One of the side effects from zyvox (linezolid) is neuropathy (sp). My kids were on it for 6 months and one of them developed a tingling in his foot. The damage can be irreversible so I would talk to you doctor ASAP.
good luck

I get the numbness when I have Tobra IVs too, on my lips and tongue. I've told my doctor about it in the past and they don't care. Tell your doctors so they know. I'm not sure how bad it is, but in case for you it's harmful, they need to know so they can switch if need be.
