I think you'll appreciate this Brad...there is legioneers in the pipes. Isn't that how you lost your lung, if I remember correctly?

Acctually, to be fair, there was legioneeers in the pipes, and then they were able to get it out (so I understand) by heating the water up to scalding levels basically...so now most people can shower no problem. But people with lung disease and compromised immune systems cannot, b/c better safe than sorry.

Apparently lots of larger buildings, hospitals included, have bacteria in the pipes. I guess it's good that at least the hospital knows about it and acknowledges it, but my lord it's a pain!

I would say that legioneers is a very Good reason NOT to shower
in that Hospital.. I lost 50 pounds while fighting it and
you would believe the stuff coming out of that lung.

Lucky for me the bacteria was only in the one lung or I would
not be here today.
The stuff i was bring up and it was a lot each day, was so nasty
that it would burn my tongue and smelled like a dead animal.

I was in pretty good shape when I caught it too, I know if I were
to get it now, it would end me for sure.

Thanks a lot for your replies everyone!

Whew, I have a lot to think about. I need it mostly just to soak up grease just as was mentioned. I'm almost 30 and my hair still gets disgustingly greasy if I skip a day of washing!! I keep thinking it'll stop, but it's not.

I do remember hearing something about the particle size of baby powder a few years ago. I'll look into the brands mentioned. My mom has a "beauty license", or whatever it's called, so she can buy hair products at cost from the wholesale supply place. With her discount, even the pricier ones won't be bad.

Piper, that is crazy about your hospital. I can't imagine not being able to shower for that long. You're right though, at least they acknowledge it. Now I'm going to be thinking about that the next time I'm in the shower at the hospital! Is there anyone else who doesn't shower at their hospital?

If anyone else any more advice/thoughts feel free to keep them coming.

Ugh, Brad I can't even imagine! Just don't go catching it again now, okay? <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> By the way, do you know where you picked it up in the first place?

Autumn, yes, it sucks not to be able to shower. But honestly, it's an amazing hospital that, because of its location in way uptown NYC, has some facility issues (older buildings, etc). They do the best they can and provide patients with those hot, pre-moistened bath towels (bath in a bag maybe?) and they give people with lung disease TONS of free bottled water to do everything from brushing our teeth to rinsing off if we need. "Showering" with Poland Spring is quite the experience. LOL. The dry shampoo is definitely a lifesaver, though.
