Dry Skin in our kiddos

I'm wondering do any cf mommies notice drier skin in their babies? or even just sensitive skin? Isaac has always had sensitive skin. So much so we can't use wipes or he gets "babboon butt." Over the last 4-6 weeks his skin is getting dryer and dryer. If so, what do you use to relieve it? I was using Aveeno baby lotion but that seems to irritate him. Then I went to Vaseline but seems so unnatural to be rubbing a petro product all over him. Now I am using Almond Oil but he wicks it up instantaneously. hmm... wondering if it's 1) just him 2) related to drugs he's getting through my breastmilk 3) related to his a-typical cf. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My daughter has eczema. For flare ups we apply Desonide steroid topical cream. For overall moisturization I use Aveeno baby wash in the bath tub, I avoid bubble bath and I try not to let her soak in the tub too long, once the soap is in there. (I switched from the Johnson and Johnson head to toe body wash) Then I give her a "massage" before bedtime with Aveeno lotion. I saw a "skin healing" one advertised on TV by Aveeno, something with oats? I might switch to that if it's more moisturizing. I've also heard of a natural cream, called Emily Cream, named after the creator's daughter. It's expensive, but it sounds like it might be worth a shot for Isaac. You can also try different detergents for his laundry, there is Dreft of course, and "All-Free" and Arm and Hammer makes one without dyes and perfumes.

Here's a link to the Emily Cream: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.emilyskinsoothers.com
">http://www.emilyskinsoothers.com
</a>I've never tried it, but before I found the regular Aveeno did the trick for us, I was going to.

As far as being CF related, I'm not sure. I have CF and the twins don't. My son has very durable skin. LOL! I can put anything or nothing on it and it looks fantastic.

Logan has never had dry skin so I don't really have any advice for you other than to not bathe him very often - like once or twice a week at the most. And you don't really need to soap him up either. I have california baby products for Logan but I haven't used any soap on him in at least 6 months (other than washing his hands). Trust me he's not dirty and smelly. He's got great soft skin.

Also check out <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/index.php?nothanks=1

It is the Environmental Working Group's guide to the safety of Children's personal care products. A lot of products out there on the market aren't tested for safety for our kiddos and you can look up all your products to see if the ingredients are safe for your family. Also you can find the safest products out there.

caleb has always had very snetivie and dry skin, Marlee not so much. We use Burt Bee's apricot oil or NOW almond oil on the baby after her baths. with Caleb I was always lathering him in lotion, but he's going to the almond oil too.

Have you tried A&D? We always had good results with that. Of, and also you can get some shea butter to rub all over him - that stuff works great.

And thave you thought about trying cloth diapers on his heiney? There are a lot of chemicals in disposables that might be irritating him. and fo course, free and clear detergents (and even try double rinsing his laundry).

I wouldn't think it was Cf related, even for him (does he tatse salty? I suppose extra salt might make him a little drier), but just that he has sensitive skin.

It could be a food allergy if it is more eczema looking and in that case, you might try eliminating dairy from your diet.

Let us know what ends up working.
