Dying Hair after Transplant

Wondered if anyone has died their hair after their transplant. I know the meds can thin out your hair and that has happened to me some so I don't want to make it worse by dying it. I've dyed it for so long though b/c I hate my hair color and it has been growing out and really want to redye it.

I waited a little over a year to dye my hair but have done so repeatedly since about 1.5 yrs post transplant. For me I have extremely thick hair though and didn't lose too much from the meds. I did lose some however. Once my prednisone dosage was decreased and I had some time to adjust to it the hair loss diminished.

If you are going to dye your hair I would recommend finding a salon though I wouldn't use the store bought stuff regularly. I did that for a while PRE transplant and the store bought stuff completely ruined my hair and I had to get a large portion of it chopped off when I went back to the salon for a dye job. Just putting that out there. I think the quality of the dye can make a difference as to how your hair is affected. I do not feel that my hair is any worse for dying it.

i bleached my hair platinum blonde a few months post, and now that i think about it i dyed it black only a few weeks post. they never told me it was harmful, and i never thought to ask. my hair is fine. a little fried going from black to white, but that would be normal for anyone's hair.

I asked my docs right after transplant... they said to be careful with bleach, since you're hair is finer and therefore, more delicate. I dye it red, which doesn't have bleach in it... have been doing it about 2-3 months after transplant till now (1.5 years post) and plan to continue <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
