So I have been using the eflow since Jan along with Colistin for the first time and everything is going FANTASTIC! BUT....my plastic pieces are turning brown and I can actually take my nail and scape some if it off. I have been bringing this to the attention of the pharm I got it from and now they finally said they think it is my water! I can not believe it would be. I use tap water for the plastic pieces and I rinse, wash and boil in tap water for plastic pieces only and they said it is the tap water. BUT I have used Pari Pro Neb plastic pieces FOREVER and used my tap water and NEVER had this problem. BUT... I also did not wash and boil as much as I do now AND I was not on COlistin. Can Colistin cause the brown? They want me to use distilled water on all plastic pieces, so rinse, wash and boil with it. Which means I am going to be going through jugs and jugs of distilled water. I am not happy and I just can not believe it is my water. Anyone have this problem or have suggestions. I was thinking of just boiling or putting in AVENT with distilled but still use tap for washing but I am afraid to ruin new plastic neb pieces they are sending me free of charge. Any suggestions, ideas?????

Thanks!

To see if it could be mineral deposits from your water (which can be more likely due to repeated boiling I guess), try soaking pieces in vinegar and then scrubbing them. It's not to sanitize like some used to w/ it, but vinegar is good for mineral/hard water deposits and worth a try. I do find it strange that you'd be having trouble with the Colistin specifically if it was your water, though... maybe someone here has had this experience.

The Avent is good, we have one (the plug-in IQ)... you only need 7oz for the 24hr cycle and washing first w/ tap water would be fine I'd think.

We had issues when our water softener wasn't working with rust -- the nebulizer pieces turned yellowish, orange, but not something we could scape off. We've since gotten a new softener and no issues.

I DO know that you can purchase a small distiller to make your own distilled water. So that might be something to look into... We had one growing up due to algae issues in from the lake where we got our water.

I would do what you say and use the AVENTwith distilled water, but rinse with your tap water. Using the Avent sterilizer is the "official" way to clean the TRIO/ eflow handsets anyway.
