E Flow Neb

I'm doing a study so I have the e-flow neb specifically for that study. I was told that no other drugs were approved for the eflow yet because of the doses and because it was new and hadn't been tested with other drugs. I want to know if your doctor actually approved drugs to be used in it and if you had to cut the dose in half or not.

I am also in a study with the eflow (the aztreonam study), and I was also advised NOT to do other meds in it, but that was over a year ago. I would say at least for the study part of it, NOT to do other meds with the eflow. What happens is that (at least with the study I am in) they collect the plastic parts of the neb every other month, I guess just to test them out and make sure they are still working correctly. They give me new plastic pieces every time I am on the drug (which is every other month). If you had two sets of plastic pieces or could get a second set, MAYBE, but for the sake of the study I wouldnt use the eflow for other meds. I have also been advised that they will be collecting my eflow machine at the end of the study to test for durability and also make sure it still works correctly. The more you use it, the more wear and tear it will have, and thus may make the eflow less durable at the end of the study you are in.

I asked Foundation Care about the eFlow today and doing other meds with it and this is what they told me:

"Not all meds can be used in the eFlow, but you can use your Albuterol and Hypertonic Saline in the eFlow. I must let you know that we are noticing an increased problem with Hypertonic Saline in the eFlow. The high salt content is causing the head to clog faster than it is designed for. If you do choose to use the saline in the eFlow, the head will need to be washed IMMEDIATELY following the saline. I must also let you know that the more medications you put in the unit, the faster that head is going to clog. In fact, what we have noticed in the past few months is that problems occur once a third medication is put in the eFlow.

As far as TOBI is concerned, it is NOT recommended for use in the eFlow. However, we compound Tobramycin for safe use in the eFlow."

They lied to you.

I'll refer you to my blog. scroll down to the bottom of the blog to Categories. Click "efLow"

As long as you wash the device like you're supposd to, the eFlow will work just fine

Thanks everyone! You made a good point Caitlin because that is the same study I am currently in (the aztreanem one). I guess they want to find out how that drug works in the study not other drugs. I guess I was just hoping to shorten a few things and wondered if I could. Maybe if I get my own personal one I could try albuterol just to get the full effect of it. I don't know! But thank you guys for your input!
