Hi Fred

There are two links. One takes you to the product line Metagenics. The other link is to holisti-doctor and you can buy Azeo-pangen there. You do not have to be a doctor or know one to buy the product from holitic doctor.

I like a low fat diet but needed to gain weight so I incorporate healthy fats like avocado, almond butter, pistachios. I hardly ever use cooking oils unless it is to put a little on a salad or add it to hummus.

Risa,

I meant how long do they last at one sitting (30 min, an hour or more) . She is doing a little better this week. She is in a phase where she wants us to feed her bites, but we will do what we can. We have tried a few different types of enzymes and right now she is taking Pancreacarb & her stools are looking better. And she hasn't complained of belly pain for awhile. The bicarb really helps her. They also switched her from Zantac to Prilosec & it seems to help. My heart breaks when her tummy hurts

Fred, I agree with you about the excessive intake of fats. To me, it doesn't make that much sense. I notice when we overload Erin she poops it all out...it is harder for her to break down. I am looking forward to when she is older & can tell me exactly what foods hurt her stomach, it is hard to guess when you are not having the symptoms. I have tried the food diary, it helps a little.

Anyway, thanks for all of your inputs - they really help the mothers with small ones!!!

Hi Karon

I have some good news for you. I hope you can learn how do this.

Before I get into my muscle testing speech, I still do not know what you mean about the enzymes. I take one pill with each meal. I try to take my enzyme during the meal. I hear different stories from others. Some take the enzymes after the meal and say they gain more weight while others take it during the meal. I have tried it all.

Now to test for foods, you can stand right in front of your daughter while she holds the object that you are testing for. Let her hold a bottle of peanut butter for example. She holds in this her left hand while placing the object close near her heart. If she cannot hold the object she can hold some peanut butter in her hand or place it under her tongue. While she is holding onto the object in question have her place her right arm perpendicular to the floor. she would be holding her arm straight out as to be an arm to block something. While she is holding out her arm, place your left hand over her wrist. Tell her to hold her arm strong not with too much might but enough that if you press gently down her arm with stay up. This is called resisting you. IF she can resist you while you are pressing down on her arm and she is holding the product in mention then she is strong to it. That means she would probably be able to digest it. You can test for enzymes and whatever else.

IF one moment she is strong to her enzymes and another minute she appears weak( meaning her arm comes down on the resistant force) then it could mean that she had enough enzymes for her meal or she does not need anymore. IT is best to test before she eats her meal.

If for some reason she tests weak day after day even after her food and her tummy hurts it could mean that her enzymes are causing an allergy. That is when I back off on that enzyme or product and switch to another or eat something else.

I use this muscle test when I am in doubt. I do not go crazy with this. I learned the sway test (self testing) when I go to the supermarket I use this on the new products if my hubby is not with me.

There are plenty of books but my favorite on energy testing is "energy medicine" by donna eden

Love that book

We were told enzymes usually don't last longer than an hour. We give DS his enzymes right before he eats his meals and he's usually done eating within half hour 45 minutes. He's a picky eater, too.

When he was in the NICU, the nurses didn't want us to spend any longer than 20 minutes feeding ds -- he was to be fed every 4 hours and if we spent too much time eating, it would interfere with his next feeding.

Some people have found if they take half their enzymes at the beginning of the meal and half either halfway thru or when they're done it works better and they don't have as many malabsorption issues.

Well to add some controversy to the whole eating fat thing I always get in debates with the dietician. Since us CFers have issues digesting fats it never really made an sense to me to eat it. While I know that its high cal. dense I have been able to gain and maintain my weight by eating High protein and high complex carbs. I actually just set a new record in my clinic with weight and body mass.

It is good to hear others with CF buck the 'high-fat' diet. Living with stomach aches because I couldn't digest the fat the dieticians told me to eat was terrible. The enzymes wern't any better....constipation!!!! The doctors told me there are laxatives for that. Just more drugs. I prefer to control my own health in some manner and I have chosen a low fat diet (much to the dietician's chagrin!). I eat mostly vegetables, fruits, alot of whole grains, and very little meat. I do love peanut butter, cashew and almondbutters and fish. My weight is right on target but they continue to push me to gain more. I feel much better when I follow my own diet. Eat healthy!

Its kind of interesting I did some research and found that in the 70's I think it was they actually had CFers eat high protein high complex carbs and low fat...it did not say why they switched though
