Update - MRSA is GONE! Bye-Bye!

Gina, I am sorry to hear this. I don't know how that could be missed. Our clinic reports do not read the way yours do...ours read 'few, moderate, and abundant.' Like ours would read 'few Staph' and 'moderate PA'. I think there is another word in the mix, I just can't think of it off the top of my head.

I would guess that in your clinics case, the higher the number the higher the count of the specific bacteria.

I am sure you are heartbroken since you thought the MRSA was gone...but as I mentioned above, our CF dr. has told us not to consider anything gone until you have at least four clear cultures in a row (so basically about a years worth). For example...my daughter Kayla cultured B. Cepacia in Sept, and her last culture (in Nov.) was clear of Cepacia (only MRSA). But I am by no means thrilled yet. I know that it is very possible that it is still there. So, we will count the clear cultures...and celebrate in September of 2009...maybe<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I have just learned not to get my hopes up so quickly.

I am glad that Brea gets to wait until after the holidays to be admitted. I hope she does well until then so she can enjoy herself!

(hugs) to you...I know it is frustrating.

Nope- not a baby at all. Our 4 year old cultured MRSA as well and we were really upset. We did three weeks of Bactrim, 1 week of Rifampin, 2 weeks of IV Vancomycin. So far his culture came back negative for MRSA and we get cultured again Dec 24th. Have you asked about IV Vanco? I hate that Aidan already has MRSA and also want it gone!
