eFlow & Colistin?

Hi all,

I have had an increased cough now for a few weeks, so my doctor started me on Colistin (which is what I used a few years ago for an exacerbation). However, I don't know if he prescribed the dose for my eFlow or not. He told me to mix 3 mL of sterile water with the Colisin vial and nebulize that...but I'm pretty sure that dose is for a regular nebulizer. But I don't even know which "regular" nebulizer to use it in...because I have three (a simple one for Albuterol, Sidestream for Pulmozyme, and a Pari neb for Tobi). Which one of those can be used for Colistin? I would rather use the eFlow, but I'm not sure of the dose and if it's less than that. But in the meantime, which neb do I use?

Thanks!

When my son had colistin for the eflow, the mixing directions were the same as a regular neb but the dosage was only about half of the quantity; I believe it was 6ml water into the colistin vial but only 3 or 4 ml withdrawn and put into the eflow. He is only 7, however. I'd call your Dr. or the pharmacist

With my eflow, it's half the normal dose. I mix 6ml water into the colistin then use 3ml in the eflow. Definitely ask the doctor, though, because your dosing might be different

You can ask and also get if you need it the premixed colistin from Foundation Care Pharmacy for your eflow. they will mail it to you. They are at 1-877-291-1122. They will answer any questions and also help you out if you need to fill the RX for it. I get several meds from them including my colistin for my eflow.

Good luck and feel better!

Thanks Jennifer,

Ended up that the side effects of the Colistin were too much for me to handle, so I had to stop it (was using it with a Pari LC). But I am trying to get set up through Foundation Care for the eFlow Cayston, so I'm looking forward to that. Thanks.
