Our daughter has had ongoing horrible stomach problems so last March we finally had a gastrografin enema done. No structural problems, just a lot of stool backed up and the procedure itself pretty much took care of that.
We are now on a "maintenance" dose of Miralax. We have adjusted the dose at various times but right now it is 1/2 capful every other day.
I hate to have her on it all the time because it may be masking other issues - like should we change her enzyme dosage. But it does seem to keep her regular and the couple of times we have stopped it altogether, she inevitably gets backed up again. And we have gotten to where we can tell by just looking at her belly. So we keep her on it, keep a poop diary, and stay on the lookout for changes.
As others have said, it is gentle and only caused explosiveness when she was getting too much of it. I really hope Emily gets to feeling better.
