My daughter (no CF) had this type of problem as a baby. Her pediatrician called it something, something dermatitis & gave me a prescription for a cream (couldnt tell you what it was now that is 7 years ago), told me to put that on first then an antifungal cream & then ummmm...whats the diaper rash cream, oh desitan (I think). It was a bit hard to do since they were all creams, but it cleared it up immediately. She didnt have the bleeding, but her skin pealed all the way around her bottom & butt & partly down her thighs. After baths etc he said to leave her diaperless to try & let air get to it before putting the meds on & another diaper. Thats always fun....no diaper!

Sean had and still has very sensitive skin. It wasn't long after he was DX and put on enzymes that a really bad case of diaper rash appeared. The Dr. gave us a Rx creme but I don't remember the name. It didn't help all that much. It was better than Desitin but not much. Have you tried "Butt Paste"? I think that's the name. It's supposed to be very good. A couple of other things we did to help were 1) using cloth diapers 2) very frequent changing 3) going diaperless. In combination, we were able to get the rash pretty well under control.

We got some stuff called critic-aid made by bazaa or sween. We call it butt paste. It sticks until you wash it off and leavesa protective barrier that really dries every thing up. We were given some at the NICU, but then I ended up ordering some online from hocks.com I have gotten boudrauxs butt paste from walmart, but it isn't as thick and doesn't stay on like this stuff. Think it's actually something used for adults who are incontinent/bedridden. But works wonders! Liza

Hi! My son used to get diaper rash really bad after we first started the enzymes and he still does when we have him on antibiotics. The best thing we have found is A&D ointment. Our CF doctor recommended it and it works like a charm. Whenever I see him even have a hint of red I pile the A&D on and it is gone within a few days. He has never gotten as bad as he did the first time when we did not use A&D. He used to do that sad screaching cry as well.

Hi Christi, glad you are happy with Riley, I thought you would be <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> We used Aquaphor (from Walmart or anywhere else) with Sydney. We liked it bc it goes on very smoothly and easily (unlike balmex) and its clear so its not messy. BUT, I will say that Sydney never got a very bad diaper rash, so I know that there are probably more "powerful ones" out there. The Butt Paste (boudeuxs) is supposed to be really good but some people need prescription strength.

DS had problems last spring because of loose stools caused by augmentin. We just piled on the critic-aid from sween and gave him lots and lots of baths to soak his butt. The butt paste creates a hard to wipe off layer and protects the skin -- something I have to tell my MIL -- DON'T try to remove it with a diaper wipe! Otherwise it causes more pain.
