Enzymes at School

My daughter just started middle school on Tuesday and I have to say a big thank you to her school nurse for working with us on her enzymes.  In grade school she had to go to the office to get her meds before lunch.  <div>Now she carries them in her backpack and keeps them in her locker.  Before lunch she gets her pills and then takes them when she gets to the cafeteria.  </div><div>Apparently all we needed was a note on her school medication form from the doctor saying it was okay for her to carry them with her.  Who knew!?  </div><div>We thought we might have a battle on our hands and it turned out not to be so.  Just thought I'd share for anyone else out there who might be having the same issue.  It sure has made Abby's day a lot better not having to make a trip to first aid everyday.  </div>

That is awesome news. My daughter just started kindergarten. I hope that when she is old enough to take the responsibility of self-administration, that the school will work with us.

Aidan has been carrying his own enzymes and taking them on his own in class and the cafeteria since he started Kindergarten. We fought hard for it but won! He loves doing it this way!

I totally remember that! And how embarrassing it was to have to go to the office during class to get them (only once or twice on overnight field trips). Doing them on my own fostered responsibility and self-governance. Glad to know your daughter gets to do that, too.

That's great! Glad to hear this! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Much MUCH less trouble/embarrassing. It's been a while since I was in secondary and middle school but my parents tried to let my schools carry enzymes with me. Of course they refused and said under the school district policy, any type of "PILL" is not allowed to be carried around at any time. I don't think my parents wanted to put up a fight about something "simple" so they just let it be. The schools just didn't understand what ENZYMES exactly are. They acted like they were some kind of DRUG. Lucky for me my friends/classmates at the time weren't really curious at all so I didn't have to worry about kids asking me questions as to why I go to the nurses office everyday. This issue is So ridiculous...

Good to know your daughter isn't having to deal with the crap I dealt with in school RE enzymes at school.
I went to 3rd grade at Valencia Elementary in Valencia, NM in 1972.
The first time another student saw me taking Cotazyme capsules at lunch I was accused of being an addict.
I had a small supply in a plastic sandwich bag in my pocket; I was accused of pushing pills.
My Mom had to be called from her job in Albuquerque, 35 miles away.
Crazy man...
I'm sure glad that crap doesn't happen much anymore.
All our best to you & your daughter, we hope she has a healthy, happy school year.

My 6 year old son use to take his enzymes in his lunch box to school, then they found out & I had to go & see the head teacher... we agreed that his teacher would hand them to him at lunch.... until she forgot to give them to him... his nurse came in & talked to the teachers on the importance of them & how they won't harm other children (unless they were to choke on it of course), now he takes them to school in his lunch box again So I can give him his correct dose in his dispenser & there are no problems now x <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0"> Lol... <br>
