My son Grant is 10 months old and weighs about 18 pounds. He takes two creon 10 with each meal. He normally has 2-3 bm's daily. Over the weekend he was going 6 times a day.

I called the cf clinic this morning to see if he needed his enzymes increased. They said he already takes the maximum dose for his weight. I explained that he has not been weighed in three weeks and that he had all the classic signs of malabsorption. He has an appt next week but I don't feel comfortable letting it go that long. I am so frustrated that they are not listening to me.

If anyone could shed any light on this it would be greatly appreciated. Could this be something besides malabsorption ? The nurse suggested that he could have a "bug", but I don't think this is the case.

HI Missy:
My kids' doctors likes to see a pattern of malabsorbtion before they increase enzymes. They don't want to increase them if the bm's increased due to a stomach virus or something that will take care of itself in a few days. Definitly bring it back up at his next appointment but also watch to see if it was just a stomach bug.

Hey~ My son Ben is 15 mths. Is Grant on some kind of acid blocker? We had a period where due to insurance they changed his prevacid to axid and his enzymes completely didn't work. Since then we have changed back to prevacid and his enzymes work better. The doctors said something about the acid needing to be blocked for the enzymes to work at full potential. (Atleast for Ben) He also takes a daily probiotic to help with good bacteria in his belly. The probiotis is called kids florastor. (This helps his stools be not so runny; it took about two weeks of daily usage to see a difference.) Wishing you luck in getting everything straightened out.

OMG! My daughter is having the SAME problem (she's a month old)!!! Our apt. is the 24th, and I'm going nuts. My clinic told us to get checked out by our pcp, to make sure its not something else, and then call them back. She's having stools that are nothing but sheer grease right now. I know it has to burn, she wails every time she goes <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> Please let me know if you find anything significant out before I do!
