Hi has anyone been on a enzyme and for years and then all off a sudden its ben taken of the market and no longer available, which means lifestyle has changed that much eg weight loss ect as no other enzymes work, if you have had a similar experience what did you do? who did you turn to? and more importantly what was the outcome? and how are you now?..
I'am finding it so hard adusting to life on enzymes that are not working due to them stoping my old ones I'm at the end of the line with it and hate who I'am now due to weight loss ect. But what can you do if the manufacturers no longer make them and a hospital can't tell them to continue them???

Would love to hear other veiws on this as It feels like its just me!!

I'm sorry you are going through this. Many people with cf are experiencing problems due to this right now due to the recent problems with Ultrase, Pancrecarb and Viocase not gaining fda approval prior to the 4/30 deadline and therefore being taken off the market. All 3 of them are supposed to be available again at some point but it's not clear when this will actually happen!

The FDA doesn't seem to realize that the enzymes are not 'interchangeable' and that Creon, Zenpep and Pancreaze (formerly Pancrease- and even that one can still be hard to get) will NOT work for everyone and all of our former choices need to remain available.

If you search the forums using keywords referring to the name of your enzyme you'll get back several threads talking about this and how people have fared. Again I am so sorry. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

A doctor recommended I try the OTC vegetarian alternatives to pancreatic enzymes, as the new formulations don't work for me. I tried Similase and CompleteGest. They both stop the pancreas pain for me, but give me acid reflux. The CompleteGest is a little easier to tolerate for me. I get less trouble with it if I take a couple of flax seed oil capsules with it. Hope this helps somebody.
