Erythema Nodosum

I used to have Erythema nodosum "breakouts" that would last for weeks on end, which first appeared when I was 6 or so. These incredibly painful breakouts went on for years, breaking out about every month. It would get so bad in my ankles, I had to use crutches to get around, it was sooo incredibly painful. My mom and I used to call it my "spots". After I got older and into high school, it just miraculously cleared up. When I was 20, I began to get really stressed with life in general and went a few months w/out my enzymes (insurance didn't cover it), so my immune system was weakened. My spots made a come-back every time I got super-stressed, then went away for good again after a year or so. Well, nearly 7 years later, I've noticed the spots slowly coming back a few times the past 2 weeks everytime I get a bit stressed. Although it feels like it REALLY weakens the body, feeling really run-down and getting a fever, I noticed any kind of pain/fever reducer helps....I usually take a cheap ibuprofen, nothing fancy or expensive. I almost always feel like I'm dying, but after I take a pain reducer, I feel better and the spots go away overnight. I know rest and chilling out about whatever is causing stress is helping it go away a lot quicker than it used to when I was a kid.

I hope my history and recent findings help out anyone who gets these ourbreaks....... when I was a kid, the spots would be HUGE, larger than the standard quarter size on both my legs, arms, butt and sometimes chest; my ankles would balloon and double their size over a few days and it would be incredibly tender and very hot to the touch.... and one of the most painful things I've ever gone through **** Parents, be sure to practice sensitivity and patience if you have children with this ailment.......... my mom's sensitivity and support meant so much everytime I had a breakout, and that was one less thing I had to worry about........... The few outbreaks I've been getting recently have been very, very small spots just on my arms and a few on my legs, and although it feels a bit like pneumonia (due to fever, body aches and feeling run down), once I take ibuprofen, I feel better overnight....one last thing, I'm not on any kind of birth control, as word-of-mouth shows birth control can cause this.

I really hope this helps!!

Ok, so maybe my dr isn't such an idiot after all, i think i owe him an apology, i thought he just went and made something up for lack of a better thing to call it and to get me out of his office. I too have it, it'll flare up every once in a while, like others said when i get stressed or start to get sick, but i'm fairly certain mine isn't caused by birth control lol. anyways yeah, it hurts, and don't think you're just gonna muscle though it, that just makes it hurt more and longer, last time i had it flare up it looked like my foot was broken, i could hardly get a shoe on it, you could see the swelling though the shoe i'm under a lot of stress right now from school so i figure i'll be seeing it come around again before too long hopefully it won't be on my foot this time, i'll get it all up and down my shins feet and ankles
