Can you explain?....they evaluate the people that are with you, or do you mean just to keep you sane between tests?

The social worker, yes you will see one whether you think you need one or not, will ask you about your support system. Usually, they will want to meet and speak with the person that will be your main support person(s) during the actual transplant process,(surgery, hospitalization, post tx care for approx.3 mo.).

They should send you a packet telling you about the evaluation covering all the tests you will do, who you will be meeting with, what and who you need/should bring with you, and a schedule of appointments.

My advice and I am sure everyone else will agree, is to write down any and all questions that pop up between now and your appointment. Keep one single notebook with these questions. I actually asked each question directly from my notes and had left a few lines between each question to jot down the answers. If you don't write them down, you will forget. Ask, no matter how silly or insignificant it may seem.

Good luck on your evaluation!

Good Luck!

I'm followed by UPENN as well. I have an appointment on February 1st so I just missed you. I would have stopped by to offer some encouragement!

Let us all know how it goes. Do you know who your transplant doctor or Nurse Practitioner is?

I knew that a support system needs to be in place, but didn't know they look at that as part of the evaluation process. My wife of 16 years Denise will be there with me, but we were debating if she needed to be available all three days. Sounds like we better plan on it. We live about 2 hours away from Philly so better plan on just getting a hotel and a pet sitter for home.

Sorry to miss you margaret, would have been great to talk to you. How do you like the Penn team? I have only had one appointment so far and had a good feeling about the Dr. I have been with my current CF dr for 27 years, so it's odd to talk to others.

Thanks everyone!
