and I forgot one...

"I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack.

I always related that song to CF for some reason because I just pictured myself someday not being able to "dance", so that I should "dance" all I can right now!!

i just wanted to say this is an interesting thread. i love that feeling of a song coming on the radio and it takes you to a place in your head where you can understand how you feel at that moment in a different way. but i don't really have a song that i equate to CF specifically. if i'm in a melancoly mood, many songs will suit my sadness. i don't know...

"Hit me with your best shot"? is coming to mind now ...although that's probably just because i've been playing it on guitar hero!

Great thread! I think of the chorus to "I get knocked down" by Chumba Wumba

He sings the songs that remind him
Of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him
Of the better times:
"Don't cry for me
Next door neighbour..."
I get knocked down
But I get up againYou're never going to keep me down

haha, leave it up to a thread about music to pull me from my corner. not surprising, since music has been my best friend since, well, ever.

now i generally hate trance, but there is one trance track by the thrillseekers called 'synesthaesia' that is pretty sad with tinge of hope. always reminds me of a time when i was really down about being sick and not being able to do anything about it, but somehow managed to pull myself out of the sadness and move on with life.

then there are two orbital tracks that really hit me - 'beelzebeat' and 'nothing left'. both of these offer a full range as well. beelzebeat, specifically, begins rather dark and angry and ends happy and hopeful. 'nothing left' has a ton of remixes that are better than the original (dj icey's is the best) the way these guys layer emotion without relying on lyrics is, quite frankly, phenomenal. if electronic is the new classical, orbital is the new beethoven.

as far as lyrically based music, i have a few here as well:

bright eyes - falling out of love at this volume ("if i die tonight, then i guess i die tonight....let me go oooooon")

the jesus and mary chain - these days ("these days i feel immune to all the sadness and the gloom. if things fall into place, get on to the right side of grace")

devotchka - how it ends ("you already know, yes you already know how this will end" - i saw these guys live and the did this song with an awesome fade in and out - live!! impressive.)

and there is a stanza in the dresden dolls' 'dirty business' that resonates:
"i was nervous, boy, am i the poster girl
for some suburban sickness, better keep a healthy distance;
now it's up to you know what to do; it's pretty dirty business."

i could easily go on and on and on, but those are some key selections - many from my musical autobiography. almost all are available on itunes, and, yes, i encourage all to hear for themselves.
