Is she on an antibiotic? She should be! Be sure to watch her neck/rib cage for retractions. That means the skin sucking in around her ribs when she breathes. My kids were only the hospital one time before they were 5. It was both from pneumonia at age 3 or 4 months of age. No fever, just a virus, coughing. It really snuck up on me. Both times, my mom was the one that said something wasn't right. You could see the retractions on my son's neck and I hadn't noticed. The ER at the children's hospital was about to send us home when they decided to do an x-ray. They said he sounded "good" but the x-ray showed pneumonia. Plus the children's hospital compares it to previous x-rays. It is not simple as a child without cf. It is always worth an extra trip to the cf clinic if in doubt even if it a far drive. For me, it is about once a year that I get concerned about the coughing and ask the CF dr to get us in to double sure that it is not pneumonia. Get x-rays and have them listen to your baby. The pediatrician unfortunately can't always hear if it is pneumonia or know what antibiotics should be used, etc.
Hope she is better soon!

This is why I love this forum! You all have such great advice, and are so reassuring, and empowering!

As of today, Paige has been fever free for 24 hours now. We still have a bad sounding cough though, and her nose is running a lot. She's also blowing out her diaper like crazy! I know she's getting enough fluids though, and I'm definitely not worried about dehydration. HOWEVER, I'm still worried about her lungs. My husband asked me if she was snoring earlier (He could hear her, but not see her) and she was wide awake, and her nose was clear. After reading this, I've decided that if she still has everything going on Monday, I'm going to ask them to fit us in. We've got a lot of cool weather moving in here, and our flu season is kicking up.

Robin - HAHA! That's what I get for trying to type an intelligent post after midnight I'm assuming Bek is still in the hospital now? I hope she gets better quick! Lord knows I'm praying hard for her! Also, Matt's sweat test turned out NEGATIVE!!! PRAISE THE LORD!! I'd kill myself trying to keep up with him as a CFer! He's all about dirt, bugs, and anything that makes me scream! lol

ymikhale - I was told a month ago by the Dr. RN. and Nutritionist (They were all in the room at the same time) that this is exactly where they want her to be right now. Does this sound odd? I'm really trying to have faith in our team right now, but I've questioned them before. I just have a hard time trusting people with the care of my children, especially now that Paige is so delicate.

Sharon - The antibiotic is part of the reason I was so upset when they told me to watch her over the weekend. I figured with Flu season kicking into gear, and all the colds going around, that they would have AT LEAST prescribed some type of antibiotic just as a safety net, but they didn't. I'm just kind of dumbfounded. As close as they've told me to pay attention to everything, and with how quickly they've told me everything can spiral out of control, AND with her being so young, I just don't understand why they don't want us up there ASAP.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! I'll keep updating through this thread until everything is settled!!!

when my daughter was your age, she was at the 25th percentile too. The doctors were on my back then to get her above 50th. Since lung function is correlated with weight, the fatter they are the better. I know what you mean about trusting people, but i prefer to be vigilant and question everything rather than regret it later. take care and i hope Paige feels better quickly

Yes, We are still here. I hope to get good news tomorrow, but we'll see. If you come up tomorrow, see if we're still here in room 6 Henson 12. If they ask for the patients name, it's Rebekah Stewart. That is great news for your son! I know it's a big relief for you.

They don't like giving antibiotics just as a safety net. They are more than likely just making sure she doesn't end up becoming resistant to antibiotics. If they are given when there is nothing there to warrant the antibiotic, then it is a good possibility that could happen.

However, I wonder if Tamiflu might have been a good call. In addition to everything else Bek is already on, they have been giving her this also.

I hope Paige gets better soon! Keep us posted.
