Hey everyone,

i was just wondering if any of you try and excersie while you are on IVs and still have your pic line in. I mean im obviously not going to go and start lifting weights and things but i have been on my Ivs for a week and now that i am feeling good i want to try and get in shape while i am feeling good.

Any suggestions on how people go about getting in shape would be great too =)

thanks guys

Rao likes walking. Long, long walking. Builds up stamina and gets your heart rate up. I use a precore (www.precore.com) or a treadmill as well.

I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My boys usually do most of their usual activities w/ PICCs. Except for swimming and contact sports, we were told its fine. Even light weight lifting!

That's kinda funny you asked that. I just asked my home health
nurse the same question tonight. This is the 3rd day with my PICC
line though. She says it would be ok to begin exercising again. I
know that I had done it in the past, but I just wanted to make sure
again. Last time I worried that maybe sweat would infect the line,
but a nurse said that since the skin SHOULD be sanitary under your
PICC dressing and sweat does not have germs in it, its ok for it to
get a little sweat under there. But I would suggest taking it
easy, if you sweat it can make the sticky tape over the PICC line
come off a little and then a nurse would have to change the
dressing it sooner than planned. Hope this helps some. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
