Exercise bike vs treadmill jog
I am starting to get better and wanted to get back into shape like my high school hockey playing days. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with whetherjogging on a treadmill or pedaling on an exercise bike is better for getting a good workout and helping the lungs out?

I like both since you can do a nebbie while pedaling or jogging. They both use different muscle groups, so if you can switch off and keep your heart rate up, it would great.

For me personally, my legs tire out on a bike well before I find myself panting, our of breath, or my heart rate up. So for mucus clearance, if I were choosing between the two, I'd jog on a treadmill or walk with a steep incline over biking. Panting and needing to take super deep breaths are what help me.
I choose dance classes and rock climbing.
Good luck getting back into shape. It is worth it, and such an odd thing, really. My friends will get colds and skip the gym to rest and recuperate. I get a cold and make sure I GO to the gym to clear out the extra gunk. (I do sleep extra though.)

I do several different types of exercise, and although I've become more of a running outdoors type of person, I do have a treadmill and it kicks my butt every time I use it! I cough more doing the treadmill than anything else. I think it's because I maintain a steady pace unlike when I'm walking/jogging outside.

I seem to remember reading a study that actually looked at this and found running is better - maybe because the extra jostling helps with mucus clearance? I know, personally, I prefer running because I push myself harder. And I have the same issue as Melissa with biking where my legs get tired before I can get my heart rate up. We have a bike and I still do it from time to time just to give my joints a break.

My top favorite is the ellyptic machine - it's quite an all rounder and you get done quickly, which suits my temperament!
